South Shore Tampa Bay
Located in Hillsborough County, about 30 miles south of Tampa, 30 miles north of Sarasota, and across Tampa Bay from St. Petersburg, the area known as the South Shore of Tampa Bay includes Apollo Beach, Ruskin, Sun City Center, Wimauma, Riverview, and Gibsonton.
Growing rapidly but retaining the small-town flavor that makes it such a great place to live, Southshore offers big-city convenience just minutes away...gourmet and casual dining, 'til-you-drop shopping, public and private golf courses, sugar-sand beaches, state-of-the-art medical facilities, gateway-to-anywhere airports, and miles and miles of interlocking waterways, highways and country roads.
Entertainment and Cultural Activities
Tampa's Performing Arts Center, St. Petersburg's Tropicana Field and the Mahaffey Theatre at the Bayfront Center, Sarasota's Asolo Performing Arts Center, and both the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa offer a variety of entertainment and cultural events throughout the year, including art shows, concerts, operas, plays and lectures.
The area's many museums include Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry, the Tampa Museum of Art, the Plant Museum, St. Petersburg's Salvador Dali Museum and Sarasota's Ringling Art Museum. And along the sparkling Gulf of Mexico the barrier islands off Bradenton, Sarasota and St. Petersburg offer some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Tampa is home to the 2002 World Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, 2004 Stanley Cup winners Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League, Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball, plus horse and dog racing. It also hosts the Outback Bowl college football event each January.
The University of South Florida and the University of Tampa have active intercollegiate athletic programs in many sports, including football, basketball and baseball. Two professional golf tournaments, the Seniors and Mixed Team, are played each year in the Tampa area.
Nine Major League Baseball teams conduct spring training within about an hour's drive of Southshore: New York Yankees in Tampa, Cleveland Indians in Winter Park, Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin; Philadlephia Phillies in Clearwater; Kansas City Royals in Haines City, Detroit Tigers in Lakeland; Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton; Cincinnati Reds in Sarasota, and, of course, the home-based Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
